Penguins defeat Rangers 3-1 (31-Mar-2008)
The Penguins close out a perfect 7-0-0 record at home in March with a 3-1 victory over the Rangers in front of 17,020 at Mellon Arena. After New York took a 1-0 lead with an early power play goal, the Pens scored twice in the first, the first from Marian Hossa and then an Evgeni Malkin power play goal. Pittsburgh also got a goal late in the third from Max Talbot.
Evgeni Malkin left the game in the second as he was cut in the face with a skate. He returned in the third with eight stitches.
April practice schedule (28-Mar-2008)
The Penguins April practice schedule has been released. The team has three open practices at Southpointe scheduled for April.
Penguins defeat Islanders 3-1 (28-Mar-2008)
Jarkko Ruutu scored the game-winner and assisted on the other two Pittsburgh goals as the Pens beat the Islanders in front of 17,025 at Mellon Arena. The game was tied at one after the first period on goals from Evgeni Malkin and the Isles' Josef Vasicek. Ruutu notched the eventual game-winner short-handed as he took the puck at the Pens' blue line, skated in on net, then went behind the goal and scored on a wraparound at the 15:12 mark of the second period. Georges Laraque closed out the scoring off a Ruutu feed by chipping the puck over Islander goaltender Wade Dubielewicz.
Marian Hossa left the game in the second after he appeared to re-injure his right knee. He returned and then left the game for good in the third when he suffered a team-described "upper-body injury."
Pens clinch playoff spot with 2-0 win over Devils (26-Mar-2008)
The Penguins clinch a spot in the playoff with a Marc-Andre Fleury shutout in a 2-0 win over the Devils in front of 16,292 at the Prudential Center. Ryan Malone scored a power play goal at 5:18 of the first period. Marian Hossa added an empty net goal with 42 seconds to go in the game. Fleury finished the game with 31 saves in his fourth shutout of the season.
Playoff tickets on sale this Friday (25-Mar-2008)
A limited number of individual game tickets for the first two home games of the 2008 Stanley Cup Playoffs will go on sale on Friday, March 28th at 10:00am ET. Approximately 2,000 tickets will be available for each game with a maximum of four tickets per game.

Pens fall 4-1 to Islanders (25-Mar-2008)
The Penguins turn in a one period effort and lose 4-1 to the Islanders in front of 16,234 at Nassau Coliseum. Pittsburgh went one for six on the power play with Petr Sykora scoring the Pens' lone goal at the 3:58 mark of the first period.
Pens crush Devils 7-1 (23-Mar-2008)
The Penguins explode for five goals in the third period on their way to a 7-1 mauling of the Devils in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. With the victory, the Pens have taken over first place in the Atlantic Division.
Pens defeat Lightning 4-2 (21-Mar-2008)
The Penguins score two goals sixteen seconds apart in the opening minute of the third and defeat Tampa Bay 4-2 in front of 17,044 at Mellon Arena. Pittsburgh had led 2-1 after two periods on goals from Jarkko Ruutu and Evgeni Malkin and then got the two quick goals from Jordan Staal and Petr Sykora to put away the Lightning. Pens beaten 5-2 by Rangers (19-Mar-2008)
The Penguins turn in a poor performance and lose 5-2 to the Rangers in front of 18,200 at Madison Square Garden. After finding themselves down 2-0 after one period, Jarkko Ruutu and Jordan Staal scored early in the second to tie the game but the Rangers struck 44 seconds later after the Staal goal and then added two more in the third.
Pens crush Flyers 7-1 (17-Mar-2008)
Sidney who? The Penguins again score 7 goals without Crosby in the line-up as the struggling Flyers managed only one goal in front of 17,132 at Mellon Arena. The Malone-Malkin-Sykora line was dominant throughout the game. Evgeni Malkin and Petr Sykora both had four point games (2g, 2a) and Ryan Malone had two assists. Tyler Kennedy scored his 10th of the season and Marian Hossa and Hal Gill both scored their first goals as Penguins.
Laraque gets three-game suspension (14-Mar-2008)
Georges Laraque has been given a three-game suspension for elbowing Nathan Paetsch in the head Wednesday. Laraque, who forfeits $20,855.61 in salary, will be eligible to return March 22nd against New Jersey.
Crosby to miss another week (14-Mar-2008)
The Post-Gazette is reporting that Sidney Crosby will miss at least three more games due to a reaggravation of his high ankle sprain.
Penguins get goals from seven different players in 7-3 win over Buffalo (13-Mar-2008)
The Penguins, playing without Sidney Crosby, score a season-high seven goals in a 7-3 win over Buffalo in front of 17,132, their 35th sellout of the season, at Mellon Arena. Tyler Kennedy scored the lone goal of the first period on a breakaway at 3:30. Georges Laraque was given a 5 minute major and game misconduct for elbowing Nathan Paetsch which knocked Paetsch out. The Pens had a huge kill on the major and then scored twice in the period (Jeff Taffe and Sergei Gonchar). The third was wild as the teams combined for seven goals. Petr Sykora, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Minard (his first in the NHL) and Kris Letang scored for Pittsburgh.
Pens recall James and Stone (11-Mar-2008)
The Penguins have recalled forwards Connor James and Ryan Stone from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on an emergency basis.
The move was made due to Max Talbot re-injuring his ankle and Petr Sykora's back problem.
Penguins defeat Capitals 4-2 on late own goal (10-Mar-2008)
The Penguins beat the Capitals 4-2 on a goal Nicklas Backstrom shot into his own net with 27.9 seconds to go in the game in front of a Penguin fan-filled Verizon Center. The game was tied at two after two periods with Washington outshooting the Pens 33-13. In the closing minute, Pittsburgh pressed and Sidney Crosby threw a shot on net from a sharp angle which Backstrom tried to clear but ended up putting it in. Jordan Staal added an empty-netter 15 seconds later sending the Pens fans home happy.
Penguins lose 5-2 to Panthers (7-Mar-2008)
The Penguins get outshot 42-27 in a 5-2 defeat to the Panthers in front of 17,012 at BankAtlantic Center. Marc-Andre Fleury started in net but was pulled after the first period with the Pens down 3-1 and being outshot 19-9. Ryan Malone and Kris Letang scored for Pittsburgh.
Pens blank Lightning 2-0 in Crosby's return (5-Mar-2008)
Marc-Andre Fleury stops 35 shots as the Penguins defeat Tampa Bay 2-0 in front of 19,206 at the St. Pete Times Forum. Sidney Crosby returned to action after missing 21 games with a high ankle sprain and assisted on Max Talbot's game-winning goal with 2:47 to go in the game. Evgeni Malkin added an empty-netter with 5 seconds to go.
