February Practice Schedule released (31-Jan-2011)
The Pittsburgh Penguins have released their February Practice Schedule. The Penguins will have six open practices at Southpointe in February.
Penguins shut out Islanders 1-0 (25-Jan-2011)
Marc-Andre Fleury stops all 29 shots he faced as the Penguins defeat the Islanders 1-0 in front of 18,225 at CONSOL Energy Center. The game was a classic goaltending duel between Fleury and the Isles' Kevin Poulin. Craig Adams got the decisive goal at the 8:35 mark of the third off of a rebound.
Penguins shut out by Devils 2-0 (20-Jan-2011)
Martin Brodeur stops all 23 Penguins shots as the Devils defeat the Penguins 2-0 in front of an announced crowd of 14,890 at Prudential Center. New Jersey scored on their first shot on goal against Brent Johnson 1:22 into the game. Nick Palmieri scored the other Devils goal at the 9:51 mark of the first. The Pens played without Sidney Crosby (concussion) and Evgeni Malkin (knee).
Penguins down Red Wings 4-1 (18-Jan-2011)
The Penguins beat the Red Wings 4-1 in front of 18,284 at CONSOL Energy Center. Pittsburgh got an early first-period Jordan Staal goal and then a Chris Conner penalty shot at 11:29 for a 2-0 lead after one. Johan Franzen cut the lead to 2-1 at 17:28 of the second but the Pens responded 30 seconds later with Chris Kunitz's 16th of the season. Matt Cooke added an empty-netter with 1:19 to go in the game.
Penguins score four power-play goals in 5-2 win over Montreal (12-Jan-2011)
The Penguins power play scores four in a 5-2 win over Montreal in front of 21,273 at Centre Bell. Alex Goligoski made it 1-0 near the middle of the first but Montreal tied it 18 seconds later. The Canadiens went up 2-1 as David Desharnais scored his first NHL goal tipping in a PK Subban shot. Pittsburgh then got second period power-play goals from Tyler Kennedy and Jordan Staal and third period PPGs from Alex Goligoski and Chris Kunitz.
Penguins blow late two-goal lead and lose 4-2 to Bruins (10-Jan-2011)
The Penguins blow a two-goal lead by giving up four goals in the last 3:23 of the game and lose 4-2 to Boston in front of 18,245 at CONSOL Energy Center. Pittsburgh appeared to be headed to a 2-0 shutout win before allowing two in a 12 second span and the eventual game-winner from Mark Recchi at 19:10. Mike Rupp and Kris Letang scored for the Pens.
Penguins blanked 4-0 by Wild (8-Jan-2011)
The Penguins get shutout by the Wild 4-0 in front of 18,263 at CONSOL Energy Center. Jose Theodore is now 19-4-3 all-time against Pittsburgh. Sidney Crosby sat out his second game with a concussion.
Penguins fall 2-1 to Canadiens in shootout (6-Jan-2011)
The Penguins, playing without Sidney Crosby (mild concussion) and Matt Cooke (personal), lose 2-1 to Montreal in front of 21,273 at Centre Bell. Pittsburgh jumped out to an early lead on Arron Asham's fifth of the season at the 2:14 mark of the first period. Benoit Pouliot tied the game at 12:28 of the second. The shootout went four scoreless rounds before Pouliot beat Brent Johnson with a nice one-handed shot which slowly crossed the goal-line.
Penguins crush Lightning 8-1 (5-Jan-2011)
The Penguins get a goal seven seconds in from Evgeni Malkin and cruise to an 8-1 win over Tampa Bay in front of 18,261 at CONSOL Energy Center. Chris Kunitz notched his second career hat trick. Alex Goligoski had a four-point night with a goal and 3 assists.
