The Pittsburgh Penguins defeat the Red Wings 2-1 in shootout in front of 17,105 at Mellon Arena. Sidney Crosby opened the scoring late in the second period with a nice forehand-to-backhand move in tight. Detroit tied the game near the middle of the third to send the game to overtime and then a shootout. Crosby and Evgeni Malkin converted their attempts and Marc-Andre Fleury stopped both Detroit attempts for the win. Pittsburgh outshot the Wings 47-24.

Chris Conner, called up earlier in the day, scores twice including the game-winner as the Penguins defeat the Rangers 4-2 in front of 18,200 at Madison Square Garden. The Rangers had a 2-1 lead near the middle of the third when the Penguins scored twice in a one-minute span thirty seconds after the Rangers second goal. Pittsburgh is now 4-0 versus the Rangers this season.

The Penguins playing without their top two goaltenders lose 6-2 to the Canucks in front of 18,810 at General Motors Place. Pittsburgh entered the game with a goaltending duo of John Curry and emergency signing Alexander Pechurski. Curry surrendered 5 goals on 14 shots and was pulled for the 19 year old junior Pechurski who stopped 12 of 13 and was named the game's third star.
