The Penguins and Wild end up knotted at one in a goaltender's duel between Johan Hedberg (30 saves) and Manny Fernandez (23 saves). Marc Bergevin and ex-Pen Richard Park were the goalscorers.

  • There was no scoring in the first period. Minnesota had a golden opportunity when Ville Nieminen was sent off for a holding / slashing double minor but they managed only four shots on goal on the advantage and failed to convert.
  • The Wild had another excellent chance when Wes Walz had a shorthanded breakaway but Johan Hedberg slid out to deny the attempt before a shot was taken.
  • 1st period penalties: Pit, Nieminen, (Holding) 9:24; Pit, Nieminen, (Slashing) 9:24; Min, Mitchell, (Hooking) 13:53; Pit, Pushor, (Roughing) 16:20; Min, Johnson, (Charging) 16:20; Min, Johnson, (Roughing) 16:20.
  • Shots after one period were 13-6 in favor of Minnesota.
  • Marc Bergevin gave the Penguins a 1-0 lead at 5:21 of the second with his first goal of the season. Bergevin fired a low slapshot by Wild goaltender, Manny Fernandez, from the left point.

  • Ex-Penguin Richard Park got the game-tying goal just under three minutes later. Park picked up a rebound of a Filip Kuba shot out front and knocked it by Hedberg.

  • 2nd period penalties: Pit, Rozsival, (Obstruction-hooking) 1:51; Pit, Bergevin, (Interference) 12:15.

  • The third period was scoreless although Minnesota thought they had a power play goal with 6:45 to go but the whistle had blown before Hedberg was pushed into the goal with the puck under him.
  • 3rd period penalties: Min, Walz, (Stick Holding) 0:38; Pit, Morozov, (Obstruction-holding) 12:42.
  • Jan Hrdina had two chances early in the overtime and then was called for too many men on the ice as he jumped the boards early and the puck hit him. The Wild, obviously, did not score on the ensuing power play.

  • Krzysztof Oliwa Memorial Ice-time Award: Hans Jonsson - 0:48 of ice-time.
