Eric Majeski's (aka Netwolf) Camp Reports for LetsGoPens.com
Gameday Skate Notes
September 26, 2008
Pretty short report to close out the 2008 camp for me. There wasn't really a whole lot going on to talk about.
Jeff Taffe, Connor James, Dany Sabourin, and John Curry were the only ones on the ice for the first 15 minutes or so. They were were with Gilles Meloche.
Danny Richmond was the next out, followed shortly by Bill Thomas. A minute or so later Darryl Sydor, Tyler Kennedy, Janne Pesonen, Hal Gill and Alex Goligoski came out, shortly followed by everyone else.
One person that did not skate today was Petr Sykora. I don't know why.
Rob Scuderi and Sidney Crosby were there, and neither appeared to be hampered in any way by their injuries. Crosby looked a little quicker than normal, though it could have just been that I was sitting closer. Michel Therrien was there, but didn't say or do much. I did see him bop Fleury on top of the head with his stick during stretches though. Mike Yeo pretty much ran the entire practice.
It didn't look like they were really doing any kind of systems work today, no special teams either; just some time on the ice to get everyone moving and loose. It seemed like a "fun" practice; they were pretty talkative and getting on each other a bit. There weren't really even any drills where the lines worked together, so each trip through a drill it was different sets of players.
Kris Letang and Goligoski were playing keep-away after all the drills were done. They grabbed a puck and just kept trying to stickhandle around/through each other over and over.
All of the forwards were working on deflections again at one end while the defense worked on their point shots at the other.
Evgeni Malkin, James, Taffe, and Curry were the last ones off the ice. Yeo was running a breakaway contest between them where pucks would be set up at various places on the ice. Each player had to go through them in a certain order. Sometimes passing back and forth to Yeo was involved. They ran through it 3-5 each, varying the number and location of the pucks. I have poorly shot video of this on the way.
