Eric Majeski's (aka Netwolf) Camp Reports for LetsGoPens.com
Camp 2007, Mellon Arena Session 3
September 27, 2007
There wasn't a lot to report on today, so my apologies for this being short.
Gary Roberts and Petr Sykora did not practice. As a results, the lines (for the most part), shook out like this:
Staal-Crosby-Recchi
Malone=Malkin-Christensen
Ruutu-Talbot-Armstrong
Stone-Hall-Laraque
x-Brent-Filewich
Sydor-Gonchar
Orpik-Whitney
Eaton-Scuderi
Weaver-Letang
Nasreddine-x
Pretty basic stuff today, no special teams work. Lots of drills involving the full length of the ice.
One drill started with a 1 on 1 at one end of the ice. Once a whistle blew, another 1 on 1 started from center, and the last two player had to bust up ice to make it a 2 on 2. Then the whistle would blow again and another pair would start from center, and the last two would have to rush up. At one point, Whitney and Crosby were the ones that had to join the rush from deep in their end. Whitney was joining the attacking player, and Crosby was defending. As the other attacker brought the puck up, Crosby made contact with Whitney and pushed him into the zone offside. He had a big grin on his face as Whitney complained to the coaches in vain.
At the end of practice, the coaches skated them all pretty hard. Half of the team lined up on each blue line. They had to skate to the center line and back three times, then the far blueline and back three times, then to center and back, but diving to each line, and then center and back normally.
Once that was done, they stretched, the coaches left the ice, and the players broke off to do their own thing. Weaver got at the top of the crease in front of Sabourin, and three other players made a triangle around him. They passed the puck all around and fast as they could, working for a shot, and Weaver kept trying to block the shots or break up the passes. I think Letang got in there and tried it a little later.
Letang and Staal were the last two off the ice, staying our 5-10 minutes after everyone else had gone off.
